Cat Age Calculator Guide

Cats age much faster than people in their first two years, then more steadily after that. This cat age calculator converts your cat's age into the human-year equivalent using the widely used veterinary chart.

How It Works

Year 1 of a cat's life ≈ 15 human years. Year 2 adds about 9 more (≈ 24). Each year after that adds roughly 4 human years.

Cat Years to Human Years

So a 1-year-old cat is roughly a 15-year-old human, a 2-year-old is about 24, and a 5-year-old is about 36. A 10-year-old cat is around 56 in human years, and a 15-year-old is about 76.

Cat Age Chart

Common conversions: 1 year = 15, 2 years = 24, 3 years = 28, 4 years = 32, 6 years = 40, 8 years = 48, 10 years = 56, 12 years = 64, 15 years = 76, 18 years = 88, 20 years = 96 human years.

Cat Life Stages

Vets often group cats into life stages: kitten (under 1 year), young adult (1–6 years), mature (7–10 years), and senior (11 years and older). Indoor cats commonly live into their mid-to-late teens.

Why do cats age so fast early on? They reach the equivalent of human adolescence within their first year and full maturity by two, which is why those first two years count for so much.
