Percentage Change Calculator Guide
Percentage change tells you how much a value has gone up or down relative to where it started — useful for prices, salaries, stats, and growth. Enter the starting and ending values to see the percent change and the direction.
Percent change = ((new − old) ÷ |old|) × 100. A positive result is an increase; a negative result is a decrease.
How Do I Calculate Percentage Change?
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. Going from 200 to 250 is a 25% increase; going from 250 to 200 is a 20% decrease.
Increase vs Decrease
| From → To | Change |
|---|---|
| 200 → 250 | +25% |
| 250 → 200 | −20% |
| 50 → 75 | +50% |

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate percentage change?
Subtract the old value from the new, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100.
What is the percent change from 200 to 250?
A 25% increase, because the difference of 50 divided by 200 is 0.25.
Why isn't a rise then a fall the same percentage?
Because each change is measured against a different starting value, so equal absolute changes give different percentages.
What's the difference between percent change and percentage points?
Percent change is relative to the starting value, while percentage points are a simple difference between two percentages.
