Puppy Size Calculator Guide
Wondering how big your puppy will get? This calculator estimates adult weight from your puppy's current weight, age, and breed size using standard growth curves. Treat the result as a well-informed estimate, not a guarantee.
Adult weight ≈ current weight ÷ the fraction of adult weight reached at the current age. That fraction depends on breed size, because small dogs mature far faster than giant breeds.
How Big Will My Puppy Get?
Puppies grow along predictable curves. A small breed is roughly half its adult weight by 4 months, while a giant breed is only about a third grown at the same age. This calculator uses those curves to project a likely adult weight and range.
Approximate % of Adult Weight by Age
| Age | Small | Medium | Large | Giant |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 weeks | ~22% | ~18% | ~15% | ~12% |
| 16 weeks | ~55% | ~47% | ~40% | ~33% |
| 24 weeks | ~80% | ~70% | ~60% | ~50% |
| 52 weeks | 100% | 100% | ~90% | ~80% |
Worked Example
A 16-week medium-breed puppy weighing 10 lb is about 47% grown, so estimated adult weight ≈ 10 ÷ 0.47 ≈ 21 lb (likely 19–24 lb).
What Affects the Estimate
- Breed size is the biggest factor — the same weight at 16 weeks means very different adults for a beagle vs a mastiff.
- Paw and frame size give a rough visual cue for large-breed potential.
- Genetics and neutering timing shift final size, so use this as a range.
Once you know the size, our Dog Food Calculator sets the right portions, and the Dog Heat Cycle Calculator helps with breeding timing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How big will my puppy get?
Divide the current weight by the fraction of adult weight typical for the breed size at the puppy's age — for example, a medium breed is about 47% grown at 16 weeks.
How do I estimate a puppy's adult weight?
Use the puppy's current weight, age, and breed size against standard growth curves; the calculator does this and gives a likely range.
At what age is a dog fully grown?
Small breeds finish around 10–12 months, medium around 12 months, large around 15–18 months, and giant breeds up to 18–24 months.
Does paw size predict adult dog size?
Large paws relative to the body hint at more growth to come, but they're only a rough cue — breed and age give a better estimate.
